Bankroll Management for Sports Betting: Flat vs Percentage

Bankroll management is crucial for sports betting success. Two popular methods are flat betting and percentage-based staking. Flat betting means you wager the same amount on every bet, regardless of your bankroll size or confidence. For example, you might bet ₱500 on every game. This method is simple and prevents you from overbetting on a single event. However, it doesn't account for your bankroll fluctuations; if your bankroll shrinks, your bets take a larger proportion, increasing risk.

Which One Should You Pick?

Percentage-based staking involves betting a fixed percentage of your current bankroll, typically 1-5%. If your bankroll is ₱10,000 and you bet 2%, your stake is ₱200. If your bankroll grows to ₱12,000, your next bet is ₱240. This method automatically adjusts your stakes, protecting your bankroll during losing streaks and compounding gains during winning streaks. It requires more calculation but is generally safer. For most bettors, especially beginners, percentage-based staking is the better choice. It enforces discipline and reduces the risk of ruin. Flat betting can work if you have a large bankroll and want simplicity, but percentage-based is more sustainable. Whichever you choose, never bet more than you can afford to lose.
